BLAKE TREINEN RESIGNS WITH DODGERS IN TWO YEAR $22 MILLION CONTRACT
Los Angeles, CA - The Dodgers have re-signed setup man Blake Treinen to a two year contract worth $22 million dollars. The contract will take him through the 2026 season where he will have completed his age 38 season and his future will be a question as he is now a two time World Series Champion.
After missing the 2023 season due to injury, Treinen’s 2024 campaign was up in the air for the Dodgers as nobody truly knew what his role would be. And in a contract year, Treinan showed out posting a 1.93 ERA though 46.2 innings and only allowing 10 runs in that time.
With the combination of a fairly healthy regular season and dominating postseason success in 2024 it was an easy decision for the Dodgers to pursue Blake for a contract. His performance against the Padres and Mets series helped seal games in the two series, where Blake looked unhittable.
The Dodgers aren’t a team who have a designated closer for a bases loaded situation. Evan Phillips held that role for the 2023 season and most of the 2024 ear as well, but with his issues on command and velocity, Phillips was shoved to a setup role for the boys in blue. More details are to come for the reliever and it is possible that Treinen was promised the closing role for years to come.
The Dodgers only have a handful of players from the 2024 World Series roster who are current free agents now, with Joe Kelly being the final bullpen arm. However, his struggles to stay healthy may drive the Dodgers in a different direction for their pen this upcoming 2025 season.
