NEW DODGERS FREE AGENT SIGNING MIGHT NOT BE ON OPENING DAY ROSTER
Camelback Ranch, AZ - Multiple headlines have come out of camp for the Dodgers this Spring, and not all have been positive for the 2024 World Series Champions.
The latest news to come out of the Dodgers training facility involves the new Korean free agent signing, Hye-seong Kim. The four time KBO Gold Glover has question marks hovering him as he continues to struggle with his bat during games/
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated “ He is playing for a job with us right now.” This is according to MLB insider Sonja Chen.
Kim’s glove was an asset that is very much needed for Los Angeles. Don’t be fooled, the Dodgers do have a roster full of players who can make it through 162 games as a mediocre defender.
However, the infield always remains a question mark as in 2024 there was not a solidified best infielder for the roster. Last season Mookie Betts started at short, but with his struggles throwing the ball he was moved back to right for the majority of the year after returning from injury.
Tommy Edman was added via trade with St. Louis to address this issue and he showed why he is a former Gold Glove In MLB, with his ability to move to any position and be the best defender on the roster. Edman will be the starting Center Fielder and moving him to the infield this deep into Spring Training could force the hand of LA to bring back James Outman and see who wins the starting role between James and Pages.
If Kim is unable to prove himself offensively and being 2025 down in the minors, the Dodgers will most likely bring Edman back to start at short, splitting time with veteran Miguel Rojas. Los Angeles aren’t desperate need for Kim to work out, but he is a player who can truly make an impact on this roster especially covering the right side of the infield.
