LA GALAXY LOSE TO BOTTOM 5 ST. LOUIS
GALAXY’S LOSS CREATED DRAMA FOR UPCOMING “EL TRAFICO” BOUT ON SEPTEMBER 14TH
The LA Galaxy are in contention to win the Western Conference in regular season points, but the club must win the majority of their last 5 games in order to secure the first round bye in the playoffs. The Galaxy were unable to put away, 13th place, St. Louis City SC in a close 2-1 defeat at CITYPARK this Sunday. The club was riding high after an impressive team performance against Atlanta United, along with the debut of superstar Marco Reus. Reus would start the match against St. Louis, but with the absence of Riqui Puig, the club felt out of sync.
Marco Reus took command of the midfield with no Puig, and needless to say, Puig is a much needed entity within the lineup. LA Galaxy went down early after a 9th minute goal by Cedric Teuchert. Galaxy did well in the first half, but not one of the 6 shots would sink in for the Galaxians. Gabriel Pec would go on to score right after half time in the 46th minute, but that would be the end of the story for the LAGalaxy. St. Louis would defend well with Galaxy controlling majority of the possession at 61%. A 68th minute goal by Marcel Hartel would seal the match, and leave Galaxy fans disappointed as what should have been an easy 3 points to their standards.
The loss is not what MLS fans were expecting, and neither were the players themselves as the loss provides an opportunity for LAFC to creep up another three points to decrease Galaxy’s lead to 2 points. LAFC will be matching up against Houston Dynamo FC, who they suffered a 2-0 loss this past weekend. A game that will be watched by many MLS fans as it will set up the drama for the final “El Trafico” bout for the two clubs next Saturday September 14th, at Dignity Health Sports Park. If LAFC come away with a win the momentum will be on their side, as there is a possibility to take first place next Saturday.
