DODGERS DFA JASON HEYWARD
Heywards contributions not deemed enough for dodgers to keep him
Dodgers announced earlier this morning on August 22nd, 2024 that Jason Heyward has been designated for assignment. Dodgers shared on their gratitude for Jason Heyward on their social media accounts. However, the word has not been received well by Dodgers Fans and outlets, with many confused as to why Chris Taylor did not receive the boot as Taylor has not played to major league level this year.
With many Dodgers players making their way back from the injured list this past week, fans were not happy to see who would be getting cut. Players such as Mookie Betts, Max Muncy, & Tommy Edman made their return to the plate this year after missing significant time from the game. After the three following players made their return only Chris Taylor remained, but the Dodgers roster was full of stars ready to play.
Chris Taylor was the last name left on the injured list with only days left before his return, and many argued that Taylor had been a crucial piece to recent Dodger success in the post season, but he was not major league ready. Taylor has hit .167 with 27 hits in 189 plate appearances in 2024, and needless to say that is not going to cut it for a team that desperately needs support from the bottom half of the lineup.
Heyward signed a 1-year, 9 million dollar contract this past offseason with the Dodgers and now finds himself on waivers awaiting to see if another team will claim him. Heyward has not had his best of seasons either, but in comparison to that of Chris Taylor, he can put up some numbers.
The Dodgers understand that Heyward’s energy is felt on and off the field and the Veteran can be used in big moments come playoff time. Dodgers fans must cross their fingers to see if Heyward can pass waivers and be sent to the minors and wait for September call-ups. If Heyward does not pass waivers expect him to be on another major contending team needing a left power bat soon.
