ANGELS AND DODGERS CALL UP SEPTEMBER ADDITIONS
BOTH LA BASEBALL CLUBS BRING UP MINOR LEAGUERS TO MAKE 28 MAN ROSTERS
With the arrival of September comes the extensions of team rosters across Major League Baseball. Typically, MLB teams will call up pitchers to increase the depth of the bullpen in preparation for playoff baseball. Now both the Dodgers and Angels will have the opportunity to bring up two new players to the MLB roster, but those prospects will have very different roles to play.
The Angels have called up IF Charles Leblanc and Reid Detmers after both had previously been on the MLB active roster earlier this season. Leblanc made his debut with Miami in 2022 since he struggled to get another MLB opportunity. The Angels signed the free agent to a minor-league contract this past offseason and made his debut for the Angels on August 4th against the New York Mets. He was optioned 6 days later. Now he comes back to try and prove MLB teams why he deserves a shot to remain at a Triple-A record.
Detmers has entered his fourth year in the Majors in 2024 and quickly found himself on a Triple-A roster since 2022. After throwing for 12 starts, Detmers carried a 6.12 ERA while allowing 43 runs. Not an impressive start by any means for the starting pitcher, but Detmers will be making his return to the mound for the Halos as he hopes to reassert himself in the starting rotation for Ron Washington.
The Dodgers have made the decision to call up Andy Pages and Michael Grove as the two September additions. The two had started the season on the active MLB roster, but were optioned due to a roster crunch around the trade deadline. Andy Pages was a well liked center-fielder for Dodgers fans took the starting job away from James Outman, the former Rookie of the Year candidate. He was sent down earlier in August due to a roster crunch, but remains an amazing prospect for the Dodgers, as he once again beats Outman to getting a call up this September.
Michael Grove entered his 3rd year in a filler role, where he could provide more innings for starters looking for early relief. Compared to 2023 Grove had to start less games, and focus on coming out of the bullpen. However grove had command issues and with an ERA above 5.00 resulted in his option to Oklahoma. He is also another Veteran the Dodgers will need down the stretch in October.
